Red Acrylic Sculpture
Add a unique design touch to your home or office with this intriguing acrylic sculpture by California artist Shalomi Haziza. Entitled "Sensations," the work of art is one continuous piece of three-quarter-inch acrylic with beveled edges that has been heated and formed into its unique, swirling shape. Mounted on a clear acrylic base and curved around a clear acrylic ball, the sculpture featured here and available at Scorpio Interiors on Bardstown Road is crimson (red), but can be ordered in 11 other colors including flamingo (light pink), passion pink (magenta), tangerine (orange), marine (turquoise), sky (light blue), orchid (lavender), sapphire (deep blue), honey (golden), iguana (lime green), fig (light yellow), and Grecian (brownish-green), each signed by the artist. Larry Wolfe of Scorpio says the sculpture, which is approximately 28 inches high and 14 to 16 inches around, is appropriate for a pedestal or table top about 30 inches high, and makes a great accent for a cocktail table. It sells for $792, and is one of several designs by Haziza available at Scorpio.
Iron Butler
Remember Grandma's handy old-fashioned hall tree? Wouldn't it be nice to have a solution to your dash-in-and-out-the-door storage problems, but with a flash of Contemporary style? The Iron Butler at Oz Collection on Taylorsville Road in Jeffersontown provides hooks to hang umbrellas, coats and bags, shelves for knickknacks and keys, and a seat for slipping shoes on and off--all in a handsome, copper-colored, forged steel and epoxy frame that's 80 inches high, 22 inches wide and 22 inches deep. The Iron Butler sells for $2,450.
Rolf Glasses
The next time you propose a toast, lift one of these elegant, Contemporary style Rolf glasses in celebration. Sand etched with a cut-in spiral from bottom to top, they lend modern sparkle to classic vessels for wine, Champagne and mixed drinks both with and without stems. At Tradewinds in Chenoweth Square, six shapes and sizes are available. There is a 5.75 ounce champagne flute, a 19-ounce universal wine glass, a 19-ounce balloon glass (perfect for red wine, allowing it to breathe), a 10 ounce traditional martini glass, a 12 ounce stemless martini glass and a 21 ounce stemless wine glass. The Champagne flute costs $10, and the rest are $12 each. Alexa Blasdel of Tradewinds says the glasses are comfortable to hold and a popular choice among customers looking for elegant, modern lines in glassware. She likes the Rolf spirals so much, she registered for them for her own wedding. Cheers!
Fiddlehead Lamp
Light up your Contemporary style with the appealing tall Fiddlehead Lamp at Dandelion in the old Vogue Theatre shops on Lexington Road. Handmade of cocoa beads, the "fronds" of this fixture mimic the shape of a fiddlehead fern or sea urchin, curling around a linen-covered shade that gives off a warm, golden glow in any setting. Dandelion's Andie Frisbee says the piece has a wonderful, organic, "sea life" feel and a natural, clean, environmentally friendly look. The Fiddlehead Lamp, created by a New York design firm, is 62 inches high and 14 inches wide, and looks great either on the floor or on a table. It costs $960.
Stainless Steel and Woven Outdoor Seating Group
You'll be able to sit back and relax in this stylish, Contemporary Monaco seating group by Brown Jordan--indoors or out. The stainless steel and woven, wicker-look polymer collection is designed for outdoor use, with solid construction and weatherproof fabrics on upholstered pieces. But Rex Lyons of Digs Home and Garden on East Main Street and in Chenoweth Square notes that the collection is equally great for sturdy family room use.
The modern, squared design is available in 20 different pieces, including a cushionless arm chair, lounge chair or adjustable chaise, a deep-seating lounge with loose cushions and matching ottoman, modular sections, a high "balcony" chair that goes with a matching bar table, and dining, end and coffee tables. One end table is woven to the ground, and the other tables are stainless steel with glass tops.
The clean, Contemporary-look pieces range in price from $550 for a small end table to $2,700 for the 48-inch dining table and $4,600 for the chaise. Prices vary not only by the size and type of piece, but by the grade of fabric for upholstered pieces.
