This year's Homearama at Locust Creek is sponsored by LG&E, an E-ON company, and Insight. The official automobile sponsor is Sam Swope Auto Group. Set among the rolling hills and fountains of Locust Creek's 325 acres, the 41st Homearama is produced by the Home Builders Association of Louisville (HBAL). Once again the traditional summer event gives homeowners in all price ranges ideas for planning their own dream home in the future or incorporating those ideas into their existing homes. All of the home designs are different. Some evoke a rustic, old world feel, while others reflect a modern, sleek look. Unique and functional floor plans offer homeowners both sophistication and enthusiasm for play. Designed to impress and inspire, Homearama 2008 offers something for everyone's tastes. If you're making plans to build in the future, Homearama presents an ideal opportunity to get ideas or find a builder. However, you just might find what you're looking for already built and waiting for you. "There can't be a better time than right now to buy a home, with interest rates so low. And if you're in the market for a home with all the bells and whistles, a Homearama home is a great value considering all of the extras that are included," HBAL President Rocky Pusateri said. Energy Efficiency Sets the Foundation for Many Homearama Designs The image of the traditional dream home has changed through the years. Move over picket fences, and make way for tankless water systems, geothermal heating and cooling systems and spray foam insulation. Homearama 2008 makes it easy to imagine a day when opening your heating bill means you don't need to sit down first and take a deep breath. Fresh designs incorporate creative floor plans and incredible living spaces, with energy efficiency taking center stage in the production of many of the houses. Some of the homes are rated among the highest levels in the Energy Star program, giving homeowners the potential for saving as much as 50 percent on utility costs. "You can save as much as 30 percent in energy costs by investing as little as $3,500. Or, you can go even further and end up being able to heat a 10,000 square foot home for just $100 a month," explained Homearama Chairperson Renotta Henson of Victory Home Builders, which has built a 5-Star Energy Star home for this year's event. "All of the builders in Homearama have incorporated some type of energy efficient or sustainable product or green building application into their homes. Many of us have been doing that for a while before energy costs began to climb. Now, consumers are asking for it. There are a lot of options out there, depending on your needs and how long you expect to stay in your home. We can sit down and design a plan that will fit your lifestyle and goals for saving money and conserving energy," she added. Nature Plays a Big Role in Design Builders have taken living spaces outside to enjoy the beautiful landscapes in Locust Creek. With personalized outdoor living areas serving as an extension of the homes' welcoming personalities, they offer a complement to the interior landscapes that run throughout. Outdoor kitchens and plasma TVs give homeowners plenty of opportunities to entertain outdoors or enjoy a peaceful night under the stars. Inside, brick archways, wide-planked distressed hardwood floors, ceiling-to-floor stone fireplaces and reclaimed wood make impressive appearances in many of the homes, adding casual design elements of the great outdoors to the elegance of upscale furnishings.
